The arena tour extravaganza of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar will return next year, with cast members Tim Minchin, former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm and Chris Moyles all reprising their roles. Ben Forster, who was cast as Jesus after appearing on the ITV casting series Superstar, will also return for tour's second leg.
The touring production will resume performances on March 10, 2013 in Nottingham. The production will then head to London, Liverpool, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham, concluding its run on March 28.
“Last year’s tour was the first-ever U.K. arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and it surpassed our expectations," Lloyd Webber said in a statement. "The response from audiences across the U.K. and Ireland was overwhelming and the show was everything I had hoped for. It’s great news that fans will have a final chance to see the show with the original arena tour cast."
In the production, Minchin plays Judas, Chisholm plays Mary Magdalene and Moyles plays Herod. A DVD of the arena tour was recently released. The most recent U.S. mounting of Jesus Christ Superstar closed on Broadway in July 2012 and was nominated for two Tony Awards.
