James McAvoy will star in a West End production of William Shakespeare's Macbeth at Trafalgar Studios, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail. Performances will begin on February 9, 2013, with the play running through April 27. Opening night is set for February 19. Further casting will be announced soon.
As part of Jamie Lloyd’s inaugural season of work for Trafalgar Transformed, the production will be performed in-the-round. Macbeth follows the title Scottish general, who receives a prophecy from three witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the throne. He soon becomes a tyrannical ruler and commits several murders to protect himself. The bloodbath takes Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into realms of arrogance, madness and death.
McAvoy was last seen on stage in the West End revival of Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain, also directed by Lloyd. He is well-known for his film work, including The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Last King of Scotland, Atonement, Wanted and X-Men: First Class.
