Dame Edna is set to return to the West End for one last engagement. Barry Humphries, the comedian under Edna's iconic purple hair, announced his retirement last spring, embarking on a farewell tour entitled Eat Pray Laugh! Directed by Simon Phillips, the show will play a yet to be determined London theater in the fall.
Barry Humphries has become a West End landmark in his own right. Famous for his outlandish alter egos, such as Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, the Australian native has starred in one-man shows that have sold out theaters and garnered critical acclaim. Dame Edna last appeared on Broadway in 2010 opposite Michael Feinstein in All About Me.
Before its West End run, Eat Pray Laugh! will play the Milton Keynes Theatre (October 23 to 26), Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (October 30 to November 2) and Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre (November 2 to 9).
