Original In the Heights stars Lin-Manuel Miranda, Karen Olivo, Christopher Jackson, Mandy Gonzalez, Robin de Jesus and more are heading back to the barrio for a one-night-only concert of the Tony-winning musical, according to The New York Times. The concert will be held on February 11, 2013 at the United Palace of Cultural Arts in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood, where the musical is set. Some proceeds from ticket sales will support local Washington Heights arts programs and the Broadway League’s Family First Nights.
The concert will star Miranda as Usnavi, Olivo as Vanessa, Jackson as Benny, Gonzalez as Nina and De Jesus as Sonny alongside original cast members Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia and Janet Dacal as Carla. Additional alumni of the show's Broadway and touring productions will reportedly round out the cast.
Featuring music and lyrics by Miranda and a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes, In the Heights opened at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre on February 14, 2008. The production earned four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The musical takes place over three days in Usnavi’s (Miranda) Dominican-American neighborhood in Washington Heights as a winning lottery ticket is sold at Usnavi's bodega.
