Creative team members have been announced for Bullets Over Broadway, the new stage musical adaptation of the 1994 comedy written by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath. As previously reported, the production will be directed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman and feature a book by Allen. The musical is slated for a Broadway opening during the 2013-14 season.
The production will feature scenic design by Santo Loquasto (Fences), costume design by Tony winner William Ivey Long (Chicago), lighting design by Donald Holder (The Lion King) and music arrangements and supervision by Glen Kelly (A Christmas Story). The musical will include existing music from the time period.
Bullets Over Broadway centers on an aspiring young playwright in 1920s New York City who is forced to cast a mobster's talentless girlfriend in his latest drama in order to get the show produced. The 1994 movie, starring John Cusack and Broadway vets Dianne Wiest and Jennifer Tilly, was nominated for seven Academy Awards and earned a Best Supporting Actress trophy for Wiest.
Additional creative team members, dates, a theater and casting for the musical will be announced at a later date.
