The Mystery of Edwin Drood star Betsy Wolfe and Rent alum Adam Kantor will bring Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years back to life at off-Broadway's Second Stage Theatre. In a new staging directed by Brown, The Last Five Years will begin performances on March 7, 2013 with its official opening night set for April 2.
Featuring music and lyrics by Brown, The Last Five Years charts the five-year relationship of Jamie (Kantor) and Cathy (Wolfe), two 20-something New Yorkers who fall head over heels in love. But in a city where professional and personal passions collide, navigating the waters of love and matrimony can sometimes prove to be too much. The Last Five Years score includes “Still Hurting,” “Shiksa Goddess,” “A Summer in Ohio” and more.
The Last Five Years, starring Lauren Kennedy and Norbert Leo Butz, debuted at the Northlight Theatre in Skokie, Illinois in 2001. The off-Broadway production, directed by Daisy Prince and starring Butz and Sherie Rene Scott, opened at the Minetta Lane Theatre on March 3, 2002.
Wolfe, who currently stars as Rosa Bud in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, also appeared on Broadway credits in 110 in the Shade and Everyday Rapture. Kantor starred as Mark in the final Broadway cast of Rent. His other stage credits include Next to Normal on Broadway and Avenue Q off-Broadway.
