A sense of uncertainty pervades Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway mounting of The Other Place, a new drama by Sharr White about a dynamic neurologist confronting the onset of an illness whose nature keeps dodging her understanding. The play, which is set to open January 11 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, is dominated by a gripping performance from Emmy winner and Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf. As Juliana Smithton, Metcalf narrates the story of her breakthrough research in Alzheimer treatment drugs and the medical crisis that upends her life with her husband Ian, (Daniel Stern).
