Sergeant Brody might be gearing up to do the "Lambeth Walk." Emmy winner Damian Lewis is in talks to star as Bill Snibson in a West End revival of Me And My Girl, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail. No official offer has been made, but Lewis "has been having informal talks" with producer Alex Armitage, and the revival is aiming for a fall 2013 opening.
The Homeland star was previously up for the same role in a Sheffield production of Me And My Girl, but was forced to turn it down due to his filming schedule.
Me And My Girl is the story of unsophisticated Cockney Bill Snibson who finds out he is the long-lost Earl of Hereford, and must choose between fitting in with proper 1930s society or losing his girl, fishmonger's assistant Sally Smith. The musical, with book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose and music by Noel Gay, had a successful original run on the West End in 1937. The 1986 Broadway production earned 13 Tony nominations including Best Musical.
Lewis frequently spent time on stage before he began his run on Homeland. He played the title role in Hamlet in London before playing Laertes in the 1995 Broadway revival of the Shakespeare classic. His film and TV credits include Band of Brothers, Your Highness, Life and Dreamcatcher.
