Let them be your star, indeed! Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty will bring their soaring vocals to a brand new album for Bombshell, the fictional Broadway show at the center of the first season of NBC’s musical dramedy Smash.
The Huffington Post reports that Bombshell, which revolves around the legendary rise and fall of Hollywood mega-starlet Marilyn Monroe, will receive a full 22-song cast recording featuring original songs by Tony winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).
The show’s creators have speculated that Bombshell could eventually hit Broadway, and a cast recording is certainly a vote of confidence for the show-within-a-show, which includes popular Smash iTunes chart-toppers like “Let Me Be Your Star,” “20th Century Fox Mambo,” “The National Pastime,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “I Never Met a Wolf Who Didn’t Love to Howl,” “Let’s Be Bad,” “Smash!” and “Don’t Forget Me.”
The Bombshell album will be released on February 12, one week after the premiere of Smash’s sophomore season. The first season will be released on DVD on January 8.
