Roses are about to be handed out at Second Stage as a new musical about reality dating shows will play the off-Broadway theater this summer. Nobody Loves You, featuring music by Gaby Alter, a book by Itamar Moses and lyrics by Alter and Moses, will conclude the theater's current season. Directed by Michelle Tattenbaum, the musical will feature choreography by two-time Emmy nominee Mandy Moore. Exact dates and casting will be announced shortly.
The new musical comedy follows a philosophy grad student who auditions for—and surprisingly finds himself cast on—a reality TV dating show in an attempt to win back his ex-girlfriend. But when an unexpected onset love connection threatens to ruin his plan, manufactured drama and real emotions collide. Nobody Loves You originally premiered at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre in 2012.
Alter wrote the music and lyrcis for Band Geeks!, 29, Young Zombies in Love, The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: A Romantic Comedy and Vapor Tales. He is a 2009 Jonathan Larson Grant recipient. Moses’ playwriting credits include Outrage, Bach at Leipzig, Celebrity Row, The Four of Us, Yellowjackets, Back Back Back, Fortress of Solitude, Love/Stories and Completeness. Tattenbaum’s directing credits include Love/Stories, The Four of Us, Szinhaz, The Sublet Experiment and Untitled Short Play. Moore’s choreography has been seen on So You Think You Can Dance and in Silver Linings Playbook.
