West End star and two-time Olivier Award winner Sheridan Smith will co-host the 37th Annual Olivier Awards, which will take place on April 28, 2013 at London's Royal Opera House. Additional performers and celebrity guests will be announced soon.
Smith will be joined by another two-time Olivier recipient Julia McKenzie, who will provide the voiceover for the ceremony. This year's awards will also feature the return of the Audience Award for Most Popular Show, a publicly voted award that will have open voting from January 27 through March 18.
BBC Radio 2 will broadcast live radio coverage of the awards (hosted by Ken Bruce), and theater fans are encouraged to attend a public celebration in the Covent Garden piazza for a streaming feed of the awards ceremony as well as live performances. For the first time, nominations for the Olivier Awards will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 on March 26 at 11:30 AM. The cast of Matilda, which won top honors at last year's Oliviers, will perform at the nomination event.
Smith is a three-time Olivier Award nominee and a two-time winner, earning back-to-back wins in 2011 and 2012 for her roles in Legally Blonde and Flare Path. She was also nominated for Little Shop of Horrors in 2009. Her film and TV credits include Gavin & Stacey, Mrs. Biggs, Eyes Down, Grownups, Love Soup and Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.
