Shuler Hensley, Jason Danieley, Jessie Mueller, Kate Burton and John Cullum are set to join the cast of the New York Philharmonic’s upcoming concert production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel, which runs at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall from February 27 through March 2.
The new cast members will join previously announced stars Kelli O’Hara, Nathan Gunn and Stephanie Blythe, who will lead the tale of the tragic romance between carousal barker Billy Bigelow (Gunn) and mill worker Julie Jordan (O’Hara). The show features a catalogue of musical theater standards including “If I Loved You,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
Blythe will play Nettie Fowler, with Hensley as Jigger Craigin, Danieley as Enoch Snow (replacing Alexander Gemignani, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts), Mueller as Carrie Pipperidge, Burton as Mrs. Mullin and Cullum as Starkeeper/Dr. Seldon.
Carousel will be conducted by Rob Fisher and directed by John Rando, with choreography by Warren Carlyle. The production will be nationally telecast on PBS’s Live From Lincoln Center, hosted by Audra McDonald, on April 26.
