Let’s face it—the Super Bowl is usually a snoozefest for Broadway fans (except the halftime show, of course!). But last year, things got very interesting when Alec Baldwin, Tony winner Jane Krakowski, Smash diva Megan Hilty and more stars belted out "Brotherhood of Man," the signature song from How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, in a hilarious NBC commercial. This Super Bowl Sunday, we’re hoping to see another Broadway-themed ad on the air, and we think these five stars definitely have what it takes to make a fun commercial. Heck, they've already done at least one!
Christian Borle — eBay
In this awesome 2002 ad, Smash star and Tony winner Christian Borle successfully convinced everyone in America to sell their hand-me-downs online with his catchy “That’s on eBay” song. Borle appeared briefly in the background of last year’s “Brotherhood of Man” commercial, so we think he’s the natural choice to be front and center in a Super Bowl ad this year.
Brooke Shields & Orfeh — La-Z-Boy
Ever wonder where the famous catchphrase “no tomato butts” came from? Yeah, we hadn't either, but Legally Blonde alum Orfeh and her Addams Family pal Brooke Shields sure throw it around a lot in this ad for La-Z-Boy. They make such a silly pair, we’d love to see them discuss additional weird food preferences while we stuff our faces with cheese dip.
Laura Bell Bundy — Ring Pop
As Internet Explorer recently taught us, the ‘90s were a simpler time. Hippos were hungrier, fanny packs were fashionable, and Wicked and Legally Blonde alum Laura Bell Bundy and her TV friends hawked those “juicy jewels of flavor,” a.k.a. Ring Pops, approximately 15 times an hour on Nickelodeon. She's the blonde one in the jaunty white hat! How about an encore performance of the classic commercial (or an “all grown up” version) during the Super Bowl, Laura?
Liza Minnelli — Snickers
We love this amazing cameo by Broadway legend Liza Minnelli, but there’s one problem: It’s way too short. After the Baltimore Ravens score their third touchdown, we’d love to see a commercial that’s nothing but Liza with a "Z" in all her fabulousness. We’ll even settle for her Claymation counterpart!
Kristin Chenoweth — Old Navy
Years before Your L.L. Bean Boyfriend objectified hunky guys in flannel shirts, Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth hosted a fictional Old Navy awards show that, well, objectified hunky guys in flannel shirts. We’d love to see her rate the Super Bowl’s hottest players in a new 30-second spot featuring the abs of Brendon Ayanbadejo.
