The Dramatist Guild of America has rescheduled their annual awards ceremony to February 26 at The Lambs Club. The event, which was postponed due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy, will be hosted by Lisa Kron and feature a performances Kenita Miller.
The Dramatists Guild also announced the new Lanford Wilson Award will be presented to playwright Francine Volpe (
The Good Mother,
The Given). The award, named after the Pulitzer Prize-winning and Tony-nominated playwright, honors writers for their work as an early career playwright with $35,000.
As
previously announced Alan Menken and Michael John LaChiusa will receive the Frederick Loewe Award for Dramatic Composition for their respective scores of
Newsies and
Queen of the Mist. In recognition of his play
Sons of the Prophet, playwright Stephen Karam will be honored with the Hull-Warriner Award, which awards plays that tackle controversial religious and sociopolitical subjects. Playwright Philip Kan Gotanda will receive the Flora Roberts Award, given to a long-serving theater professional. Singer, writer, composer and director Micki Grant will receive the Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award.
