Country and soul singer Crystal Bowersox, best known for coming in second place on season nine of American Idol, will make her Broadway debut as famed singer Patsy Cline in the bio musical Always…Patsy Cline, according to the show's official website. Featuring the music of Cline and a book by Ted Swindley, Always…Patsy Cline is expected begin performances this summer at a yet to be determined theater.
Always…Patsy Cline is based on a true story about the friendship between Patsy and her most devoted fan, Louise Seger. The musical includes 27 of Cline’s hits including “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces” and “Walking After Midnight.” The role of Louise has not been announced at this time.
The musical premiered in South Carolina in 1990, and has since had productions in Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, Australia, Ireland and off-Broadway at Variety Arts Theatre in 1997. The off-Broadway production starred Tori Lynn Palazolla as Patsy and Margo Martindale as Louise.
Bowersox was nominated for the 2010 Teen Choice Award for Favorite Female Reality/Variety Star. She released her debut album Farmer’s Daughter through Jive Records in 2010. Her sophomore album will be released through Shanachie Records in March.
