The Almeida Theatre Company announced that Rupert Goold will take over as the artistic director for the 33-year-old theatrical company, replacing current post-holder Michael Attenborough.
Two-time Olivier Award winner Goold has been associated with the company since 2008, when he directed Stephen Adly Guirgis’ The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. Goold has also been buzzed about lately (especially in the States) for as he will direct the Almedia's upcoming world premiere of American Psycho, Duncan Sheik's musical based on the popular novel and cult film favorite.
Goold will take over the post for the Almeida in August, and his first production with his new title is set to open in January 2014. Next up for Goold: the world premiere of Lucy Kirkwood’s Chimerica, which will be co-produced by the Almeida and Goold’s Headlong Theatre Company (for which he served as artistic director since 2005).
