Stage actress Ilana Levine will join the cast of off-Broadway’s My Name Is Asher Lev beginning February 26. Levine will replace current star Jenny Bacon, playing all of the show's female characters, including Asher’s mother Rivkeh. Bacon plays her final performance at the Westside Theater on February 23.
Set in New York City, My Name Is Asher Lev is the story of a Hasidic Jewish boy who wants to be an artist. As Asher matures as both a Jew and an artist, he continues to struggle to be accepted by his family and the members of his community.
In addition to Bacon, the drama stars Ari Brand as Asher Lev and Mark Nelson as the male roles, including Asher’s father Aryeh. Directed by Gordon Edelstein, My Name Is Asher Lev is adapted from the beloved novel by Chaim Potok.
Perhaps best known for her role as Lucy in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Levine’s other Broadway credits include Wrong Mountain, Jake’s Women and Last Night of Ballyhoo. She also appeared on screen in Kissing Jessica Stein, Friends with Kids, Damages, Failure to Launch and Imogene.
