Two more Broadway shows bite the dust! A revival of The Miss Firecracker Contest and Eric Coble's new play The Velocity of Autumn have been postponed, according to The New York Times. Firecracker (which had been set to star Amber Tamblyn) and Velocity (slated to star Estelle Parsons and Stephen Spinella) were both aiming for spring openings. Broadway newcomer Larry Kaye serves as producer for both productions.
Kaye blames the Miss Firecracker Contest delay on scheduling conflicts, which “stood in the way of getting our particular dream cast.” Rumors are swirling that Kaye had also been eyeing Parker Posey, who is currently working on a new untitled NBC pilot by DJ Nash. Two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey had been tapped to direct.
Meanwhile for The Velocity of Autumn, Kaye states he was unable to find “a suitable theater this season that would be a great fit for this two-person, very intimate play.” The producer hopes to bring both productions to Broadway in the 2013-14 season, but no official plans have been made.
Darn, guess we’ll have to get our Miss Firecracker fix by watching Holly Hunter in the 1989 film adaptation!
