The Scottsboro Boys are crossing the pond! After the musical's acclaimed Broadway run in 2010, five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman will helm the London premiere of John Kander, Fred Ebb and David Thompson’s musical at the Young Vic. The production will begin performances on October 18, with an official opening night on October 29. Casting will be announced shortly.
Based on the true story of a 1931 trial in Alabama, The Scottsboro Boys examines the notorious case of a group of young African-American men who are falsely accused of attacking and raping two white women. The musical is presented in the style of a minstrel show as the boys try to prove their innocence. After premiering off-Broadway, The Scottsboro Boys opened on Broadway in October 2010 at the Lyceum Theatre, starring Joshua Henry, John Cullum and Colman Domingo. The production was directed and choreographed by Stroman. The Scottsboro Boys earned 12 Tony nominations, including Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
