Ever since Barbra Streisand was announced as a performer at this year’s Oscars, the web has been buzzing about her possible song choices. While we personally were rooting for a Funny Girl or Hello Dolly! medley, it appears Babs has chosen a song from one of her non-musical movies! According to E! Online’s Marc Malkin, Streisand will sing her Oscar-winning tune “The Way We Were” during the annual tribute to famous folk who've passed away in the last year.
“Barbra Streisand singing ‘Memories’ during in memoriam at #oscars,” Malkin wrote on Twitter. “This is gonna be powerful!” Marc, we’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you mis-named the song “The Way We Were” because of Twitter’s character limits, right?
Singing the song during the memorial segment would make sense for Streisand, as the tune's Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch passed away on August 6, 2012. He and Streisand worked together on the films The Way We Were and The Mirror Has Two Faces. Hamlisch won two of his three Oscars for The Way We Were and picked up a nod for The Mirror Has Two Faces' song “I Finally Found Someone." He was also a Pulitzer Prize, Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe winner.
