Even if Quvenzhane Wallis doesn’t take home the Best Actress Oscar, the adorable youngster will still have had one stellar weekend for a nine-year old. As previously speculated the Beasts of the Southern Wild star has now officially landed the title role in the upcoming big screen revamp of Annie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The new take on the classic musical will be directed by Easy A helmer Will Gluck and features re-imagined music by Jay-Z. Gluck recently re-tooled the screenplay, which was originally penned by Emma Thompson, and the musical is aiming for a release during the 2014 holiday season.
Wallis' star-making performance in the indie fantasy drama Beasts of the Southern Wild solidified the Louisiana native as the youngest actress in history to receive an Academy Award nomination in the Best Actress category.
