Robert De Niro may not have picked up another Oscar this weekend, but the acclaimed actor is about to take home another presitigous prize. De Niro will receive the Actors Fund's Medal of Honor at their annual gala on April 29. The 2013 gala, to be held at New York’s Marriot Marquis, will also toast cable network HBO and documentary film producer Steve Kalafer. Celebrity participants will be announced at a later date.
De Niro won Academy Awards for his performances in The Godfather, Part II and Raging Bull. His other screen credits include Silver Linings Playbook, Awakenings, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Meet the Parents and A Bronx Tale, which he hopes to bring to Broadway as a musical.
HBO's (Home Box Office) premium cable programming includes The Sopranos, Girls, Game of Thrones, Sex and the City, Veep, True Blood, The Wire, Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Oz, Newsroom, The Comeback, Taxi Cab Confessions and Boardwalk Empire.
Kalafer is a three-time Oscar-nominated producer and the founding chairman of the Flemington Car and Truck Country family of automobile dealerships. He also serves as treasurer and trustee of the Actors Fund.
