Stephen Sondheim, Liza Minnelli, Angela Lansbury & More to Join Michael Feinstein for PBS’ American Songbook

Michael Feinstein will sit down with Tony winners Stephen Sondheim, Liza Minnelli, Angela Lansbury, Christine Ebersole and more for season three of his PBS series Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook. The three-part series, in which Feinstein explores the history and popularity of theatrical music, begins on April 5.

The first episode, Show Tunes, features Sondheim, Lansbury and Ebersole. Sondheim will discuss the composers he admires and reveal rare home footage from the original Broadway production of Follies. Lansbury will look back on her Tony-winning career in musical theater, and Ebersole and Feinstein will perform famous tunes from Broadway musicals.

After the singing comes the dancing, as the second installment of season three is all about dance. Titled simply Let’s Dance, this episode explores classic dance from Fred Astaire to Gene Kelly. Tony and Oscar winner Liza Minnelli will join Feinstein to dish about the legendary dancers and show some fabulous vintage video of her dancing with Kelly.

Season three concludes with On the Air. In the final episode, Feinstein honors the Golden Age of Radio. The finale will feature guest spots by TV, radio and stage star Rose Marie (The Dick Van Dyke Show) and acclaimed musicians Joshua Bell and Jeremy Denk.
