Spring is getting even more Super! Wicked star Alli Mauzey, Tony nominee Will Swenson, two-time Tony nominee David Pittu, Broadway alum Jenny Powers and more will join previously announced star Edward Watts in Encores! production of It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman. Directed by John Rando, the superhero musical will play March 20 through 24 at New York City Center.
In addition to Watts as Superman, Mauzey as Sydney, Swenson as Max Menken, Powers as Lois Lane and Pittu as Dr. Sedgwick, Superman will feature Erich Bergen as Jim Morgan and James Saito as Father Ling.
Featuring a book by David Newman and Robert Benton, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams, It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s Superman is a musical adaptation of the Superman comic books. Superman opened originally on Broadway in March 1966, directed by Hal Prince. The production ran for 192 performances.
In addition to Wicked, Mauzey has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray and Cry Baby. Swenson earned a Tony nomination for Hair. His additional Broadway credits include Priscilla Queen of the Desert, 110 in the Shade, Lestat and Brooklyn. Powers currently stars in Donnybrook! at the Irish Repertory Theatre. Her Broadway credits include Grease and Little Women. Pittu earned Tony nominations for Is He Dead? and Lovemusik. His additional Broadway credits include The Coast of Utopia, Never Gonna Dance and The Tenth Man. Bergen appeared on Broadway in An American Daughter. Saito's Broadway credits include Golden Child and The King and I.
