Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary’s musical adaptation of the 2003 dramedy Secondhand Lions will premiere at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre on September 10. The limited engagement is set to run through October 6. No casting has been announced at this time.
The tuner is based on the 2003 film starring Haley Joel Osment, Michael Caine and Robert Duvall. Secondhand Lions tells the story of a shy boy who befriends a lion after he is sent to live with his eccentric great-uncles (whose history is colored by hidden treasures, beautiful princesses and war adventures).
Directed by Scott Schwartz, the brand new musical features a book by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) and music and lyrics by Zachary and Weiner (First Date). Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures presented a reading of the production in New York City in early 2012.
