It’s a Date! The new musical comedy First Date is coming to Broadway this summer. Featuring a book by Austin Winsberg, music and lyrics by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner and directed by Bill Berry, First Date begins performances July 9 at the Longacre Theatre. Opening night is set for August 4. Casting will be announced shortly.
First Date explores the most dangerous human endeavor in existence—the dreaded blind date. When tightly wound Aaron is set up with cool girl Casey, a quick drink turns into a hilarious dinner served with sides of Google background checks, fake emergency phone calls, a slew of bad boy and uptown girl exes, and some seriously saucy chemistry. Can this mismatched pair turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives, or end up at another table for one?
Winsberg’s TV writing credits include Gossip Girl, Jake in Progress, Still Standing and Glory Days. Zachary and Weiner are the composers of Secondhand Lions and Twice Charmed. Perry is the producing director of the 5th Avenue Theatre, where the musical previously ran in spring 2012.
The new musical features choreography by Josh Rhodes, set design by David Gallo, costume design by David Woolard, lighting design by Mike Baldassari and sound design by Kai Harada.
