Comic book nemeses, Broadway co-stars, best friends and now wedding buddies? Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart’s bromance is going to a whole new level as McKellen revealed that he’ll be officiating Stewart’s upcoming wedding to singer Sunny Ozell.
“I’m going to marry Patrick… how else do you put that? I am going to officiate at his wedding,” McKellen told Jonathan Ross on his ITV show. McKellen also revealed that the wedding would be “in the middle of America, somewhere.”
McKellen has officiated before by performing the union of two men in the U.K. who wedded in a civil partnership. “I was crying my eyes out,” the actor admitted. “But what do you wear when you officiate a wedding? Last time I went with a sort of gown. A white… something I bought in India. It was rather fetching. You mustn’t upstage the bride.”
Forget the bride—it’s Tony nominee and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Stewart who will have to make sure not to be upstaged by his partner, especially when the duo hits Broadway this fall in Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot. Stewart’s wedding will be fine practice!
