Beer pong on Broadway?! I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Tucker Max’s controversial short story collection about his sex and drinking misadventures, could be heading to Broadway, according to Variety. The new adaptation, called I Hope They Serve Beer on Broadway, is planning a developmental off-Broadway run in 2013. Directed by Christopher Carter Sanderson, the production is reportedly hoping for a Broadway transfer.
In I Hope They Serve Beer on Broadway, a cast of five men and five women will reenact the booze-soaked tales from Max’s 2006 book and its subsequent sequel, Assholes Finish First. No casting, theater or dates have been announced.
No word on which of Max’s stories will be included in the stage production, but some of the titles include: “The Dog Vomit Story,” “The Worst Tucker Story Ever,” “The Famous Sushi Pants Story,” “The Absinthe Donuts Story” and “The Blowjob Follies” (which we assume is quite a bit different from Stephen Sondheim's Follies). I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell was a New York Times number one bestseller, and was adapted into a 2009 film starring Matt Czuchry and Jesse Bradford.
