The 79th annual Drama League ceremony will honor Tony winners Bernadette Peters and Jerry Mitchell, Madison Square Garden Entertainment and the one-and-only Radio City Rockettes. The four honorees will accept their achievement awards in a ceremony at New York’s Marriot Marquis on May 17.
Peters (whose credits include Sunday in the Park with George, Follies, Annie Get Your Gun and Song and Dance) will receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award in recognition of her contribution to the musical theater. Mitchell (who serves as director and choreographer for the Broadway musical Kinky Boots) will take home the Founders Award for Excellence in Directing. Madison Square Garden Entertainment and the Rockettes will share the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award for their continuing efforts in promoting live theater.
In addition to these three special recognition awards, the ceremony will also present trophies in five competitive categories: Distinguished Play, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Best Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award. Nominees for the competitive categories will be announced at Sardi’s on April 23.
