The complete cast has been announced for Classic Stage Company's new production of Bertolt Brecht's The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Previews begin at the off-Broadway theater on May 3. Directed by Brian Kulick, the production will play a limited-engagement through June 9. Opening night is set for May 30.
Joining previously announced star Christopher Lloyd (as Azdak), the full cast will feature Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis as Grusha, two-time Tony nominee Mary Testa as Governor’s Wife, Jason Babinsky as Yusek, Tom Riis Farrell as The Corporal/Shuva/Fat Prince, Alex Hurt as Simon and Deb Radloff as Farmer’s Wife/Aniko. The production will also include orginal music by Tony winner Duncan Sheik.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells the tale of a young servant girl named Grusha who, after a military coup in a small town in the princedom of Grusinia, rescues a baby abandoned by the governor and his wife. Risking her life to protect the helpless infant, Grusha and the child embark on a journey of mutual survival that ultimately raises the question of who has parental rights over the boy, the woman who gave him life or the one who sustained it.
Davis received a Tony nod for her role in Once. Her off-Broadway credits include The 39 Steps, Wolves and Emily & Dally with the Devil. Davis’ TV credits include Fringe, All My Children and White Collar.
Testa received Tony nods for her roles in 42nd Street and On the Town. Her other Broadway credits include Chicago, Guys and Dolls, Xanadu, Marie Christine, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Rink, Marilyn and Barnum. Testa’s TV credits include Smash, Two Broke Girls, White Collar, Nurse Jackie and Sex and the City.
Babinsky appeared on Broadway in Ghost and Billy Elliot. His film and TV credits include House of Cards, Person of Interest, Contagion, You Don't Know Jack and Law Abiding Citizen.
Farrell appeared on Broadway in Chicago, Coram Boy, Dirty Blonde, Wrong Mountain and 1776. His off-Broadway credits include The Old Boy, Arturo Ui, Li'l Abner, Mary Rose and Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island. Farrell’s film and TV credits include Elementary, The Americans, The Good Wife, Fringe, Brotherhood, The Bourne Legacy, Almost Famous and Sleepless in Seattle. Hurt appeared on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and in off-Broadway’s Unrequited. Radloff’s New York Theater credits include Dance Dance Revolution and Girls Night.
