After sustaining an injury during rehearsals, Bunty Berman Presents… star Erick Avari (Bunty Berman) has withdrawn from the production on doctor's orders. As a result, preview performances from April 19 through April 22 have been canceled. No replacement for Avari has been announced. The new musical, currently in previews, began performances April 12 and is slated to open on May 9 at the Acorn Theatre.
“Erick’s recovery is a foremost concern for all of us and he has our full support,” Bunty Berman director and New Group artistic director Scott Elliott said in a statement. “I can’t say enough about his commitment and contributions through rehearsals and early previews. He will be missed by everyone around the show.”
Bunty Berman Presents… features a book and lyrcis by Ayub Khan Din and music by Din and Paul Bogaev. In addition to Avari, the cast includes Raja Burrows, Nick Choksi, Katie Chung, Sevan Greene, Andrew Guilarte, Shoba Narayanan, Lyn Philistine, Debargo Sanyal, Pallavi Sastry, Gayton Scott, Lipica Shah, Alok Tewari and Sorab Wadia.
The New Group production features choreography by Josh Prince, set design by Derek McLane, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Acme Sound Partners, projection design by Wendall K. Harrington and orchestrations and arrangements by Paul Bogaev and Boko Suzuki.
