It's Tony time on Broadway, and as always, we can't stop thinking about who'll be going for the gold on June 9! In anticipation of the 2013 nominations, which will be announced on April 30, we're clocking 14 of the top races. Below, we analyze the contenders for Best Revival of a Musical, in which five productions are vying for four nomination slots.
FRONTRUNNERS
Cinderella
This classic production boasts the old-school appeal of a tuneful Rodgers & Hammerstein score, an updated book by Douglas Carter Beane and a cast who can do justice to both.
Pippin
A favorite in multiple Tony categories, Diane Paulus’ revival features one jaw-dropping number after another and reinvents Stephen Schwartz’s 1972 hit for a 21st century audience.
IN THE MIX
Annie
This big (in every way) revival should score its share of Tony nominations, including Best Revival.
Jekyll & Hyde
Dismissive reviews will likely keep Frank Wildhorn’s fan-favorite tuner out of the running.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood
Look for this entertaining, well-reviewed fall production to nab a Best Revival nod.
