Tony and Academy Award winner Kevin Kline is set to reprise his Tony-winning performance as the Pirate King in the Public Theater’s one-night-only gala production of The Pirates of Penzance at Central Park’s Delacorte Theatre on June 10.
The gala event will honor longtime Public board member Nora Ephron, who counted herself as a fan of the Shakespeare in the Park program—where the Public’s revival of the beloved Gilbert and Sullivan musical premiered in 1980 with Kline, Linda Ronstadt, Rex Smith and George Rose. Additional casting for the one-night-only performance of Penzance will be announced shortly.
Kline most recently took the stage at the Delacorte for the 2012 gala reading of Romeo and Juliet opposite Meryl Streep. Among Kline’s impressive Broadway credits are the 2007 revival of Cyrano de Bergerac, Henry IV (Tony nomination), Arms and the Man, On the Twentieth Century (Tony win), Ivanov and The Play What I Wrote.
