Broadway is buzzing about the possible stage debut of Easy A and Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone, who may star in the forthcoming 2014 revival of Cabaret, according to The Wrap.
Stone is reportedly in talks to play Sally Bowles opposite Tony winner Alan Cumming’s return to the role of the Emcee in the rumored Roundabout Theatre Company revival. Although the production itself has not been officially announced, plans for the show were confirmed by composer John Kander in The New York Times. Word is Sam Mendes will reprise his direction of the production, which received the 1998 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Rob Marshall is also back on board as choreographer and co-director.
Max Crumm, actor and childhood friend of Stone's, acknowledged her desire to take on the role. “We grew up doing musicals, and she wants to do Broadway so bad,” Crumm told Broadway.com. “I want to do Cabaret with her…I know she’d love to do it.”
Earlier this week, the U.K.’s Daily Mail alleged that Anne Hathaway would make her Broadway debut in the show, but a rep for Hathaway denied her involvement.
Reps for Stone and the Roundabout declined to comment about the casting.
