Swedish recording star Peter Joback is bringing the Music of the Night to Broadway beginning April 29, as he takes on the title role in The Phantom of the Opera. Joback will remain with the production through August 24—Phantom vet Hugh Panaro will return to the title role on August 26.
Now in its 26th year at the Majestic Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera currently stars Samantha Hill as Christine, Kyle Barisich as Raoul, Michele McConnell as Carlotta, Ellen Harvey as Madame Giry, Jim Weitzer as Monsieur Andre, Timothy Jerome as Monsieur Firmin, Kara Klein as Meg Giry and Christian Sebek as Piangi. The Phantom of the Opera originally opened on January 26, 1988, starring Michael Crawford as the Phantom and Sarah Brightman as Christine.
Joback is a Swedish Grammy-nominated, platinum-selling recording artist. He played the Phantom in London from March to September 2012. His additional West End theater credits include Miss Saigon and The Witches of Eastwick. In Sweden, Joback has appeared in Kristina fran Duvemala and Cabaret.
