Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is in talks to star in the upcoming, contemporary Annie film remake, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Foxx will play Benjamin Stacks, a variation on the classic character Daddy Warbucks.
The new take on the classic musical will be directed by Easy A helmer Will Gluck and features re-imagined music by Jay-Z. Gluck recently re-tooled the screenplay, which was originally penned by Emma Thompson. The movie musical is aiming for a release during the 2014 holiday season.
If Foxx signs on, he will join Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis, who has been cast in the film’s title role.
Foxx won an Academy Award for his star-turn in the biopic Ray. His other screen credits include Django Unchained, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Any Given Sunday, Jarhead, Valentine’s Day and Collateral. He also appeared in the movie adaptation of the popular musical Dreamgirls.
