Rattlestick Playwrights Theater announced that the world premiere of Buyer & Cellar, starring Broadway fave Michael Urie, will transfer to the Barrow Street Theatre this summer, according to The New York Times. The comedy will end its extended run at its current home on May 12. After a brief hiatus, Buyer & Cellar will begin performances June 18 at the larger Barrow Street Theatre, playing a ten-week engagement.
The Jonathan Tolin-penned play tells the story of Alex More (Urie), a struggling Los Angeles actor who finds himself taking an odd job working in the Malibu basement of a Hollywood mega-star. When the A-lister makes a rare appearance one day, the comedy launches into an outrageous look at fame and the price that accompanies it.
Directed by Stephen Brackett, Buyer & Cellar features set design by Andrew Boyce, costume design by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Eric Southern and sound design is by Stowe Nelson. The show biz comedy officially opened on April 3, and was originally set to close on May 4.
