Two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone and Oscar nominee Angela Bassett will make magic in American Horror Story: Coven, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The third season of Ryan Murphy’s FX thriller will premiere in October and also feature fellow Broadway vets Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Kathy Bates.
Spread out over several cities, Coven explores the power of witches and includes three characters based on actual people.
LuPone previously appeared as herself on Murphy’s musical-themed series Glee. LuPone is a two-time Emmy nominee for her work on the TV movie The Song Spinner and the sitcom Frasier. Her other TV credits include 30 Rock, Will & Grace, Ugly Betty, Army Wives and Life Goes On. LuPone won Tony Awards for Evita and Gypsy. She received Tony nominations for her work in Sweeney Todd, Anything Goes and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
Bassett most recently appeared on Broadway in the two-hander The Mountaintop. She received an Oscar nomination for playing Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It. Her other stage credits include Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Macbeth (opposite Alec Baldwin), Henry IV Part I, Fences, His Girl Friday and Black Girl. Her many screen credits include Waiting to Exhale, ER, The Rosa Parks Story, Betty & Coretta, Malcolm X, The Jacksons: An American Dream, Jumping the Broom, Green Lantern, Boyz n the Hood and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
