For most television stars, there’s nothing rougher than having your show nixed by the cruel hand of the cancel-happy network execs. What’s an actor to do? Luckily for Broadway stars, there’s always another option. Despite the unfortunate cancellations of shows like Go On and The New Normal last week, a slew of Broadway vets are now available to return to the stage! With that in mind, Broadway.com turned to our readers to tell us which stage star from a canceled TV show should make their big return to the Great White Way. Here are the results!
1. Megan Hilty – 32%
Is it any surprise that Smash’s sensational breakout star Megan Hilty is at the top of the list? After turning in the best all-around performance on the much-maligned dramedy, Hilty is a critics’ darling and a Broadway fan favorite. Forget the fictional Bombshell—let’s get her back on Broadway and give her a damn Tony already!
2. Jeremy Jordan – 18%
Coming in at number two is former Newsies headliner Jeremy Jordan, who departed the show to join Smash in its second season. Anyone who’s even glanced at social media knows that Jordan’s fans are eagerly awaiting his stage return. Newsies 2, anyone?
3. Andrew Rannells – 13%
After being wowed by his performance in The Book of Mormon, we can’t wait to see what this erstwhile New Normal star will do next. Our readers obviously hope it’s Broadway, but given Rannells’ presence on HBO’s Girls, there may be a few more cocaine episodes for his character Elijah before this former Elder makes Broadway his mission.
