Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, starring Christopher Lloyd, officially opens at the off-Broadway theater on May 30. The show will play a limited-engagment through June 9.
Directed by Brian Kulick, The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells the tale of a young servant girl named Grusha who, after a military coup in a small town in the princedom of Grusinia, rescues a baby abandoned by the governor and his wife. Their misadventures across her war-torn country become the heart of the play, which calls into question our basic assumptions of right in a world that has gone wrong.
In addition to Lloyd, the show will feature Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis as Grusha, two-time Tony nominee Mary Testa as Governor’s Wife, Jason Babinsky as Yusek, Tom Riis Farrell as The Corporal/Shuva/Fat Prince, Alex Hurt as Simon and Deb Radloff as Farmer’s Wife/Aniko.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle will feature new music by Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik.
