David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s critically acclaimed musical Here Lies Love has announced an additional four weeks of performances at the Public Theater. This is the fourth and final extension for the world premiere musical, which will now close on July 28.
Set to the beat of a throbbing dance club score, Here Lies Love tells the story of Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos, her meteoric rise to celebrity and subsequent descent into infamy. As directed by red-hot director Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, the forthcoming Rocky), the show is an immersive theatrical experience that puts audience members directly into the action in a 360-degree scenic and video environment.
The cast features Ruthie Ann Miles as Imelda Marcos and Jose Llana as Ferdinand Marcos, as well as Conrad Ricamora, Renee Albulario, Melody Butiu, Natalie Cortez, Debralee Daco, Joshua Dela Cruz, Kelvin Moon Loh, Jeigh Madjus, Maria-Christina Oliveras, Trevor Salter and Janelle Velasquez.
The show, which opened on April 23, comes from a concept by Byrne and features choreography by Annie-B Parsons, set design by David Korins, costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Justin Townsend, sound design by M.L. Dogg and Cody Spencer, projection design by Peter Nigrini and additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo.
Here Lies Love is fresh off a high of awards victories, including the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical, an Obie Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics, Drama Desks Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting Design and Projection Design, and Theatre World Awards for Miles and Ricamora. An original cast recording is also in the works.
