Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle, which was originally schedule to play through June 9, will now run through June 23. Starring Christopher Lloyd and directed by Brian Zulich, The Caucasian Chalk Circle officially opens May 30 at the off-Broadway theater.
In addition to Lloyd, The Caucasian Chalk Circle stars Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis, two-time Tony nominee Mary Testa, Jason Babinsky, Tom Riis Farrell, Alex Hurt and Deb Radloff. Lea DeLaria will succeed Testa, who has a previously scheduled conflict, as the Governor’s Wife for the extension weeks.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle tells the tale of a young servant girl named Grusha (Davis) who, after a military coup in a small town in the princedom of Grusinia, rescues a baby abandoned by the governor and his wife. Their misadventures across her war-torn country become the heart of the play, which calls into question our basic assumptions of right in a world that has gone wrong.
DeLaria has appeared on Broadway in Hair, On the Town and The Rocky Horror Show. Her off-Broadway credits include Out of Iceland, Little Fish, The Vagina Monologues and Li'l Abner. DeLaria's film and TV credits include The First Wives Club, Californication, Law & Order: SVU, Friends and Saved By The Bell: The New Class.
The creative team for The Caucasian Chalk Circle features scenic design by Tony Straiges, costume design by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Justin Townsend and sound design by Matt Kraus.
