Paul Szot had Broadway audiences swooning for his Tony-winning performance as Emile De Becque in the enchanting revival of South Pacific. Now, Szot will bring that same magic to the small stage for a weeklong engagement at 54 Below. The Brazilian opera singer will debut his new show August 5 through 11.
The show at 54 Below will include a mix of classics from the American Songbook as well as Brazlian and jazz favorites.
Szot is an internationally acclaimed baritone whose previous New York credits include starring roles in New York City Opera productions of L'Elisir d'Amore, Carmen and Le Nozze di Figaro. A finalist in the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia, he made his operatic debut as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in his native Sao Paolo before going on to sing lead roles with major opera companies throughout South America, Europe and the United States. He reprised his Tony-winning performance in South Pacific for the show’s West End production, becoming the first Brazilian to be nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
