My One and Only had a rocky road to Broadway back in 1983, with the original director, book writer and set designer given the heave-ho before the show headed to Boston for its out-of-town tryout. Luckily, this Gershwin tuner had an ace in the hole: star and co-choreographer Tommy Tune, who knew a thing or two about putting a show on its feet. According to legend, Tune confabbed with famous friends like Mike Nichols, Tony Walton and Michael Bennett to create an irresistible tuner co-starring Twiggy and legendary tapper Charles “Honi” Coles. The musical opened just before the Tony deadline and picked up nine nods, with Tune and Coles winning for their performances and Tune and Thommie Walsh for their choreography. On June 2, members of the original Broadway company and tour stars Lucie Arnaz and Stephanie Zimbalist joined Tune at Sardi’s for a joyful 30th anniversary reunion. Click below to catch up with them!
