On June 11, the Public Theater rocked its annual Central Park summer gala with a one-night-only benefit performance of The Pirates of Penzance. Original star Kevin Kline reprised his Tony-winning role as the Pirate King (created in Central Park in 1980!) in the concert, and filling out the cast were Glenn Close as the spurned maid Ruth, Martin Short as the fast-talking Major General Stanley, Jonathan Groff as pirate apprentice Frederic, Eric Idle as the Sergeant of Police and Anika Noni Rose as the angel-voiced Mabel. The talented ensemble of Broadway stars thrilled the crowd at the Delacorte Theater, where patrons of the Public gathered to catch the show and honor the late Nora Ephron (a longtime Public board member). Check out this Hot Shot of the curtain call, then feast your eyes on one of the night's special guests, Meryl Streep, posing with the Public's Artistic Director Oskar Eustis!
