There are no wrong moves in tango! Forever Tango dances its way back to Broadway on July 9. Luis Bravo’s acclaimed dance revue will play a limited engagement through September 15, with an official opening night set for July 14 at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Dancing With the Stars pros and Broadway alums Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have signed on for the first three weeks of the run, from July 9 through July 28.
Forever Tango traces the birth of salsa music and dance from 19th-century Buenos Aires to its more modern manifestations. The new incarnation of the production, featuring 16 dancers and an 11-piece orchestra alongside rotating celebrity vocalists, will launch on Broadway before heading out on a U.S. and international tour. Five-time Grammy winner Gilberto Santa Rosa will take the stage as a guest vocalist for the initial three weeks of the engagement.
Created and directed by Bravo, Forever Tango originally opened in 1997 at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre before transferring to the Marquis Theatre. It earned a Tony nomination for Best Choreography. In 2004, the production returned to Broadway’s Shubert Theatre for a four-month engagement.
