Original off-Broadway stars Amy Brenneman, Beth Dixon, Virginia Kull, Kellie Overbey and Lee Tergesen will reprise their roles in Gina Gionfriddo’s Rapture, Blister, Burn in a new staging at the Geffen Playhouse. Peter DuBois, who directed the show at Playwrights Horizons last summer, returns to direct the new production, which will run from August 13 through September 22 in the Geffen’s Gil Cates Theater.
The production will mark the West Coast premiere of Gionfriddo’s comedy, which tells the story of three generations of women with wildly different approaches to work, love and family. Academic Catherine (Brenneman) envies the domestically dissatisfied Gwen (Overbey), while young Avery (Kull) discovers commonalities with Catherine’s aging mother Alice (Dixon).
Rapture, Blister, Burn opened on June 12, 2012 at Playwrights Horizons and ran through July 1.
Brenneman is a five-time Emmy nominee, most recognized for her televison roles on Judging Amy, NYPD Blue and Private Practice. Dixon's Broadway credits include Wrong Mountain, Major Barbara and The Royal Family. Kull most recently starred opposite Jessica Chastain in the 2012 revival of The Heiress. Overbey, an alum of the 2006-2007 Coast of Utopia trilogy on Broadway, received a Drama Desk Award nomination in 2013 for Sleeping Rough. Tergesen is best known for his role on TV's Oz, as well as his stage work in Good Boys and True and The Foreigner.
