Here's a quick way to heat up your summer: TV star Jackée Harry is leading the cast of off-Broadway’s NEWSical the Musical for a very limited engagement in August. The 227 Emmy winner will take the stage at the Kirk Theatre from August 23 through August 27.
"I am beyond stoked to be joining the cast of NEWSical The Musical,” said Jackée in a statement. “The brilliance of Tom D'Angora, coupled with such a formidable cast, made this a production I simply couldn't refuse!"
Jackée previously appeared onstage in The Boys From Syracuse, A Broadway Musical, The Cleanup Woman and as Billie Holiday in Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar and Grill. She is currently juggling starring roles in three different TV series: First Family, Let’s Stay Together and the upcoming Boy Meets World spin-off Girl Meets World. Jackée made history as the first African-American to an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her iconic TV character Sandra Clark on 227. TV fans also know Jackée from the long-running sitcom Sister, Sister, Another World, The Women of Brewster Place, The Royal Family and Everybody Hates Chris.
NEWSical The Musical is the forever changing, completely un-sanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Honey Boo Boo to Paula Deen, the budget crisis to The Long Island Medium, marriage equality to Kim and Kanye’s baby, NEWSical The Musical sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to song.
Created by Rick Crom and directed by Mark Waldrop, NEWSical also stars Christine Pedi, Michael West, Tommy Walker, Susan Mosher and Dylan H. Thompson. Harry is the latest on a growing roster of stars to lead NEWSical; within the last year, the show welcomed guest headliners Perez Hilton, Tony nominee Andrea McArdle, Cheri Oteri and Emmy winner Carson Kressley.
