Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Kevin McCollum (Motown the Musical, Avenue Q, Rent) has joined forces with film producer John Davis and media executive Tom McGrath on a development deal with 20th Century Fox to develop live stage productions based on the studio’s titles, according to Deadline. The team is looking to develop stage musicals and shows that could return to the big screen as tuners.
"For years we have been eager to expand our entertainment expertise to the world of live stage, but we wanted to do it right and most importantly, with the right people," said 20th Century Fox chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos in a statement. "We have been fortunate to have found great partners in Kevin, John and Tom to help to transform great Fox properties into exciting live stage entertainment for audiences everywhere."
"This new joint venture provides a much needed foundation to the creative process for myself, my partners, and the artists who will develop these shows," added McCollum. "We are eager to get to work mining the stage theatrical possibilities of the Fox film library."
The deal follows a similar agreement set up last year between Sony Pictures and Scott Sanders Theatrical Productions. 20th Century Fox titles that have been adapted into Broadway musicals prior to the deal include All About Eve, Applause, 9 to 5, Young Frankenstein and Big.
