Director Josie Rourke’s critically acclaimed production of Conor McPherson’s masterpiece The Weir will transfer to the West End in January 2014, with the full original cast set to reprise their roles from the sold-out Donmar Warehouse production. The play will run at Wyndham’s Theatre beginning January 16, with official opening night set for January 22.
Risteard Cooper (Finbar), Brian Cox (Jack), Dervla Kirwan (Valerie), Peter McDonald (Brendan) and Ardal O’Hanlon (Jim) will all return for Rourke’s mounting of McPherson’s Olivier-winning play, which tells the story of a group of men whose daily gathering at a local pub is interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious woman. As each man tries to impress her with stories, one particularly chilling tale comes to light.
The Donmar production bowed in April 2013 and played a limited engagement through June 8. The Weir marks the first West End transfer for Rourke and the Donmar since her appointment as artistic director.
The Weir was first produced at London's Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in 1997 and transferred to Broadway in 1999.
